Smolt Designated: Not the way it was suppose to go

It miay have been 8 games too many, but John Smoltz has pitched his last game for the Boston Red Sox it appears as they designated him for assignment. Two of the three pitchers the Red Sox used in their loss to the Yankees last night were designated for assignment today -- lefthander Billy Traber, who relieved Smoltz and was no more effective, was let go to make room for veteran infielder Chris Woodward, who was claimed on waivers from Seattle.
