Why The Red Sox should lock up Buchholtz
Click to visit this pageThe Red Sox are suppose to go after Padres' first baseman Adrian Gonzalez this off season. With the new San Diego GM, Jed Hoyer, knowing pretty much Theo Epstein does about the Sox needs and what they have to offer, it could be very interesting negotiations. All that said, it makes more sense to lock up Clay Buchholtz for a long term contract, thus making it too risky for the Padres to demand Buchholtz in a trade for Gonzalez. Of course, it the Buchholtz contract doesn't work out, the Sox can eat that contract (obviously it shouldn't be any better/bigger than Lester's but something that requires a chunk of change that San Diego doesn't have). Besides, Clay worked the best out of the entire rotation with V-Mart.
